WPCNR WHITE PLAINS VOICE. November 13, 2004: A reader takes issue with WPCNR style in the following letter to the editor:
Mr. Bailey:
Please stick to writing about local supermarkets and fast-pitch softball. At least then your frequent spelling errors and grammatical mistakes will not be so devastating for your reputation in the community.
Your comments about national election issues are pathetic. Your efforts to portray yourself as a respectable analyst (let alone, a "journalist") only elicit laughs from your readers. Stick to reporting local events; at least then you are serving a legitimate purpose. But please don't think that anyone takes you seriously as a reporter. Unfortunately, you exhibit none of the professional standards regarding objectivity, balance, accuracy, etc., that reporters typically follow.
It's hard to tell whether you view your Website as more than just a gossipy sideline to occupy your time and provide you with an excuse to attend civic affairs. If you really do see yourself as a serious journalist, someone who is respected by your readers, then you've got a long way to go. Stop imposing your opinions into "news articles", and have a separate section for editorial comments. Right now, you hopeless confuse the two -- and your credibility suffers. And try harder to get your spelling and grammar correct. It's hard to take seriously a publication with so many errors that should have been corrected in ninth-grade English class!
Sincerely,
A White Plains resident who would love to have access to a Website that provides reliable and accurate news and the exchange of opinion.
