15 High School students receive honors in National Merit Scholarship Programs

High School stages Noel Coward's "Hay Fever" in November.

29 High School students selected to perform in County State Music Festival.

Fifteen White Plains High School Seniors were announced as being honored by the National Merit and National Achievement Scholarship Programs at the Board of Education Meeting October 16.

Seniors Benjamin Aronin, Joanna Cohen and Katherine Marshall were named Semifnalists and are in the 1% of the nation's high school students who reach this level.

Twelve other seniors were named Commended Students. They are Athena Cheng, William Coulter, Daniel Gold, Kenneth Hurt, Ian Kasman, Geoffrey Lehv, Nancy Lin, Monique Popiel, Robert Saccardi, Daniel Schiff, Erika Tsang and Tracy Turo.

Monique Popiel was also named as one of only 1,500 Semifinalists nationwide in the National Achievement Scholarship Competition for Black American high school students.

High School tackles Noel Coward

White Plains High School's Theatre Unlimited will stage the Master of Broadway Sophistication's "Hay Fever" on Friday and Saturday, November 10th and 11th at 7:30 PM, Sunday, November 12 at 3:00; Thursday, November 16 at 7:30 PM, and Friday and Saturday, November 17 and 18 at 7:30 PM.

The show is directed by teacher Kate Farren, with Assistant Directors Rachel Schien and Jillian Steinhauer, and will star Jana Sikdar, Michael Fries, Anita Pathak, Rafi Silver, Rachel Michel, Samuel Kurnit, Florence Noel, Matt Robbins and Jenna Lowy.

The six performances will be presented at the LGI Little Theatre at the High School and tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Gold Pass Seniors are admitted free.

29 High School Musicians chosen State's Finest

The High School has announced the names of 29 musicians and singers who have been selected by the Westchester County School Music Association to participate in the Area All-State Music Festival Concerts on November 10 at the Westchester County Center.

Named to the All-State Band were Mark Collins, Joanna Glauber, Nancy Lin, Susan Massena, Benjamin Rudow, Erika Tsang and Alan Witlen.

Selected to the All-State Orchestra were David Bergman, Cyndi Carnaghi, Athena Cheng, EvanEckfeld, Rhonda Gordon, Adam Kroetsch, Jonathan Seidel, Jamie Su and Elizabeth Tranchina.

Members of the All-State Chorus are David Coleman, Adolpho Enciso, Lisa Friedland, Jenny Gill, Emily Grant, Victoria Herrmann, Jason Keeler, Rachel Michel, Julie Miller, Rachel Schein, Jillian Steinhauer, Nina Sturtz and Sarabeth Wager.

Ms.Wager has also been chosen to sing with the Women's Chorus at the New York State School Music Association All-State Conference in Rochester, November 26-29.

The students' music teachers are William Eckfeld, Lesley Tompkins and Kathleen Vande Berg.
